Wedding & Couple
Photographer in Kandy

Warm, unhurried, a little like film.

Y Creations by Yehen Fernando

The day goes quickly. The photographs don't.

There is a moment at every wedding — usually about twenty minutes in — when the two of you forget anyone is watching. That is the photograph I am waiting for. I'm Yehen Fernando, a wedding and couple photographer based in Kandy, Sri Lanka. For eight years I have photographed Sri Lankan couples through engagements, pre-shoots and wedding days, and travellers through honeymoon sessions, surprise proposals and elopements in Sigiriya, Ella, Galle and Nuwara Eliya. No stiff poses, no endless shot list. I stay out of the way, I watch the light, and I wait for the moments you would want back.

01 — Weddings

Wedding days, told honestly

The quiet of the morning before anyone is ready. The poruwa. The long lunch that runs late. Your grandmother laughing at something nobody else heard. I photograph weddings in Kandy and across Sri Lanka, and I do it from the edge of the room — no staging, no long shot list, nothing rearranged for the camera.

  • The morning, before the house wakes up
  • The ceremony, exactly as it happened
  • The night, while it is still loud

02 — Couples & Honeymoons

For the two of you, somewhere beautiful

A honeymoon, an anniversary, or an ordinary morning on the island you would like to keep. We talk before you fly — where the light falls, what time to wake, which corner of Sri Lanka suits the two of you. Then we walk, and you forget I am there, which is the whole idea.

  • A planning call before you arrive
  • Sneak peeks within forty-eight hours
  • Your full gallery two weeks later

03 — Surprise Proposals

She never sees me coming

We plan it in secret, by message, for weeks if we have to. On the day I arrive early and become another traveller with a camera. I am already photographing before you turn around — and afterwards, once she has said yes and stopped shaking, we take a proper walk together.

The look

Three rooms, three kinds of light

Deep shadow, warm skin, nothing lit that didn't want to be.

Kind words

We forgot he was even there. Then the photographs came back and we saw the whole day again, including all the parts we had missed ourselves.

Where I shoot

Based in Kandy, travelling the length of the island. Tea country, the rock fortresses, the old forts on the coast — tell me where you'll be and I'll come to you.

Questions

Before you ask

How much is a wedding photographer in Kandy?

It depends on how much of the day you would like kept. There are three wedding collections — one covering the day itself, one with a longer pre-shoot and albums and prints, and one that runs across three days including the homecoming. Every price is written out in rupees on the packages page, with nothing hidden and nothing added later.

Do you travel outside Kandy?

Gladly, and often. Kandy and Kurunegala are included in every collection, and I photograph regularly in Sigiriya, Ella, Galle and Nuwara Eliya. Anywhere further simply carries a travel cost that depends on the distance, all of it set out on the packages page before you commit to anything.

How soon will I see my photographs?

Previews of about 30 images reach you within 48 hours. Your full edited wedding gallery is ready within three weeks; traveller sessions are delivered within two weeks, online, with full download access.

How do I secure my date?

A 30% non-refundable deposit confirms the date, and the remaining 70% is due seven days before the wedding. If you need to move the date, you get one free postponement with at least 60 days’ notice.

Can you photograph a surprise proposal?

It is my favourite thing to photograph. We plan the spot and the timing in secret, I arrive early and blend in as another traveller with a camera, and afterwards we take a proper walk together. Nothing is posted anywhere until you both say yes.

Do you film video as well?

No — I shoot stills only, so I can stay fully present with you through the day. I am happy to recommend a videographer whose style sits well with mine.
